ABOUT US
Our Mission: The Flathead Land Trust is dedicated to the conservation of northwest Montana’s land and water legacy through voluntary agreements with private landowners.
We are a local land trust founded in 1985 by a group of forward-thinking community members. All local residents, they were interested in giving rural landowners a conservation option for their land as the Valley began seeing rapid growth. In 1988, Flathead Land Trust received its first donated conservation easement from Alice Sowerwine. It's a wonderful 157-acre parcel located on Fennon Sough in Lower Valley and a perfect beginning to our important work in the Flathead Valley.
As of January 2012, Flathead Land Trust holds 49 conservation easements protecting over 10,000 acres across the Flathead Valley. We're pleased to partner with these dedicated easement landowners to preserve the natural resources, scenic beauty and rural character of Flathead Valley. Their decision to enter into a conservation agreement benefits the entire community by saving wildlife habitat, agricultural and timber stands, wetlands and open space for future generations.
The same goes for our members! Membership in FLT means getting involved and doing something positive to protect the places we treasure. Click here to join today!
