Meet Flathead River Otter,
The "River to Lake Initiative” Mascot.

He says, "The Flathead's As Good As It Gets. If you love the Flathead, you “otter” like this page and share it with your friends.” Otter will keep you posted on a stream of river and lake issues and fun facts - as far as Otters are concerned -
via Facebook.

Otters are intelligent, playful and cute. So we want to introduce you to the Flathead River Otter, a highly talented aquatic weasel from right here in northwestern Montana.

He just wants you to him!

No one knows the rivers and lakes of the Flathead Basin better than the Flathead River Otter! He knows the secrets and wants to share. And he’s a very social creature. He wants to be your friend, so “like” him on Facebook. Visit the Flathead River Otter page on Facebook to see cool photos, videos and get the inside news on clean water, boating, fishing and fun.

Recently,an interviewer sat down at Blankenship Bridge to ask some questions of this denizen of the Flathead's blue waters.

Q: It's nice to meet you Mr. Flathead River Otter. What's your territory and how can others make contact with you?

A: Nice to meet you, too. My home is wherever I can swim! I cover the entire Flathead River system from the headwaters in British Columbia to Flathead Lake and as far downstream as the Clark Fork River! I even make it over to Whitefish Lake and the Stillwater and the Swan. So many great bodies of water here in the Flathead! My human friends can follow me on Facebook.

Q: Facebook?! That's pretty sophisticated for a river otter, isn't it?

A: Well, river otters are very social animals, and I in particular like to be 'Liked', if you know what I mean.

Q: What's your goal? I mean, how many friends does a river otter need?

A: The more the merrier! Right now, I want to double my number of "friends" on Facebook.

Q: WHOA! And what would you do with that many Facebook friends, if you don't mind me asking?

A: Together we can celebrate, learn more and spread the word about Northwestern Montana's fabulous waterways. Fishing. Boating. Swimming. Skiing and sledding in the winter. The best places for sushi.

Q: That sounds pretty simple.

A: Don't be fooled. We should never take our clean water for granted. As I like to say, the Flathead Basin is "Good, Clean, Fun." Let's keep it that way!
